Description

Located in the former wheat hall, the Humanist Library has become the emblematic monument of the city of Sélestat.

The collection of old books witnessed the first breaths of the local university, at a time when printing has finally allowed knowledge to flow and education to be democratized. Beatus Rhenanus, a great Alsatian humanist, donated his personal collections to the city, which are at the origin of the library. Since 2011, the collection has been classified by UNESCO in the register of «Memories of the world».

Restored between 2014 and 2018, the library opens its doors to the public again.
